New Year’s Freeze

Cheers to a happy and healthy 2014

Cheers to a happy and healthy 2014

Happy New Year y’all! We’ve had a chilly start to the New Year after returning home from our Christmas trip to a busted furnace. With still no heat on New Year’s Eve, we rang in 2014 in front of the fireplace while decked out in layers of flannel and fleece.

We spent Christmas week with my husband’s wonderful family north of Atlanta, heading in to the city to visit friends on Thursday. We stopped for lunch at The Buckhead Diner, a local favorite more posh than greasy spoon. The diner earned a few negatives reviews on Yelp recently but the place was packed with a well-heeled lunch crowd when we arrived. As our daughter settled into the leather booth, she commented on the retro chic atmosphere, “This place is cool”! The service was a bit slow but our food was excellent – the salmon on my salad was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Known for its signature blue cheese potato chips, The Buckhead Diner attracts celebs from Mick Jagger to Ryan Seacrest – check out the full list of stars at: http://www.buckheadrestaurants.com/celebrity-photos/.

We headed home to Charlotte last Sunday (blissfully ignorant of our furnace problem), listening to the Panthers play their last regular season game against the Falcons in downtown Atlanta. The Panthers pulled out yet another nail-biting win, securing the NFC South title and a week off before they face their next opponent.

With Panthers playoff excitement and sub-zero temperatures in Charlotte (I’m writing this in gloves as we await our new furnace installation) 2014 is off to an eventful start. Cheers to new adventures and HEAT!
