10 Delicious Things about Summer in the South

As the humidity and heat rise in May, it’s time to embrace the leisurely lifestyle of summer in the South. Along with the time-honored tradition of sipping ice tea or mint juleps on the porch – here’s a list of just a few of my favorite things about the dog days of the season:

  • Fresh local tomatoes sprinkled with salt
  • Planning your days at the beach around the tides and cocktail hour
  • Boat rides down the Intracoastal waterway to Dockside Restaurant at Wrightsville Beach
  • Escaping to the mountains for a respite from the summer heat
  • Fresh grilled fish, clams and oysters on the half shell, and shrimp cocktail
  • Fresh blackberries and raspberries from the farmers’ market
  • Wearing flip-flops with everything
  • Dancing with your mom to classic beach music songs like Carolina Girls
  • Spotting dolphins/porpoises in the ocean or waterway
  • Waterskiing on the glassy Intracoastal Way at sunset

Please comment with your favorite ways to enjoy summer in South!
