We made a last minute call to spend Labor Day weekend at our family home near Wrightsville Beach, NC – joining a group including two toddlers and my beautiful eighty-sixty year old grandmother. The skies cleared on Saturday after a streak of rainy days, a perfect late summer day with a record high of 96 degrees. We hit the beach in the late afternoon, watching our almost two-year old collect shells in her bucket and splash in the surf.
My brother, husband, uncle and I headed to Dockside Restaurant for lunch on Sunday, a longtime favorite spot just before the bridge to Wrightsville Beach. Though rain returned in a light drizzle, we stayed at our waterfront table overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. I always ordered the cheeseburger during childhood trips to Dockside, but opted for a salad with grilled Mahi Mahi and the Bloody Mary Shrimp appetizer. And some fries to counteract the otherwise healthy choices. My fresh seafood lived up to expectations, while the view showcased boaters savoring their final cruise of the summer. The Dockside menu offers plenty of variety for kids and adults, and remains a must-visit destination for locals and tourists.
