The “not quite fall” weather is gorgeous in Charlotte and pumpkin season is here! I bought some pumpkins from Whole Foods to decorate the front our house but look forward to taking a special trip to the patch .
Last year, we visited Hall Family Farm in the Ballantyne area to pick out our pumpkins. With a 5 acre corn maze, hay rides and tons of activities for kids including a mini-corn maze, there’s no reason to rush the pumpkin selection process. There’s no cost to play in the kids area – our daughter loved testing out the cozy coupes, playing in the big sand box and pumping water in the duck race.
I thought I would never be a candidate for the corn maze, as I often need a GPS to drive around Charlotte. But the Hall Family Farm owners assure the navigationally challenged of an escape plan in the Fall issue of Ballantyne Magazine. Corn maze participants can raise a flag to catch the attention of a staff member watching from a bridge or call in for a rescue via cell phone. If feeling adventurous, you can bring a flashlight to tackle this year’s maze “Pharoah’s Curse” in the dark on Friday and Saturday nights.
Hodges Family Farm near the University area of Charlotte is another pumpkin patch popular with locals. We loved our visit to Hall Family Farm and look forward to returning this year.
