Football Fever with a Southern Twist

During the Carolina Panthers’ dramatic win over the New England Patriots on Monday night, Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith tangled with Patriots’ Aqib Talib, resulting in penalties, smack talk and one entertaining football game. Fired up from the win, the always feisty Smith took one last jab at Talib (who left the game with an injury) in a post-game interview (see clip below), telling him to “Ice Up, Son”.

The “Ice Up” one-liner went viral online and in the sports media – inspiring a T-Shirt and a clever ad from Bojangles in honor of Smith (a long time spokesperson for the Charlotte-based chicken and biscuits chain)

Whether it’s with sweet tea or something stronger (sweet tea vodka perhaps?), fans are celebrating the Panthers’ return to football relevance.
