The cold water swirling around our toes reminded us weeks remain until summer, but it was still a perfect beach day two Saturdays ago during our trip to the NC coast. After showing her surprise when first running into the chilly waves on Figure 8 Island, our daughter struck a surfing pose on the sand and faced off against the tide. I don’t know if the colder temperatures affect the ocean’s appearance, but the blue and green hues seemed more distinct on this trip than during the summer months.
On Friday night as we attended a wedding event at Wrightsville Beach, a loner surfer braved the cold water in a wet suit to paddle his surfboard through the gentle waves.
Our daughter could have spent all day on Saturday on the beach, and got to return for an early evening trip with my mom. She wanted to pick up every shell in her path and delighted in burying my mom’s feet in the sand. I splashed in tidal pools on this same beach as a toddler, so I loved watching her discover the joys of this special place. After thirty something years, there is still no where in the world I would rather be.
