NC Shrimp: Fresh from the Boat

This summer I’ve griped about the lack of good shrimp available in Charlotte, so I’m importing it myself as much as possible (we are high volume shrimp eaters). After spending this past weekend at our family beach house on the North Carolina coast, I stopped at the Cape Fear Seafood Company (recommended by family) on Highway 17 on the way home to stock up. I bought 5 lbs of medium shrimp for $10.99/lb, and a styrofoam cooler packed with ice. After arriving home, I separated and froze the shrimp in  smaller portions.

We made shrimp creole on Sunday night with our fresh catch and the taste blows grocery store shrimp out of the water (sorry Harris Teeter). Along with the seafood market, Cape Fear Seafood also operates a restaurant and recently opened a beer and wine garden. If Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach is on your travel agenda this summer, visit Cape Fear or Motts Seafood at Wrighsville to bring the coast back to your dining room table.
